In August of last year we had the honor of working on Jordan and Lianna’s wedding. We had such a great time working on this elegant wedding and watching as the brides vision came to life. Over the next few weeks we want to share their story with you.
Lianna and Jordan met in 2011 at a bistro in Philadelphia called Rouge and to this day, they frequent the Rittenhouse favorite for its ambiance, park-side dining and Parisian flare. When Lianna began planning she knew she wanted to incorporate that vintage Parisian theme into her big day and so it would only seem fitting that the couple chose Cairnwood Estate in Bryn Athyn for their 165 guest, Labor Day weekend wedding. Thank you to Alyssa of Alyssa Maloof Photography for capturing the happy couple and their aesthetic perfectly!
The Bride and Groom
On the day of the wedding Lianna had a hair and make up team on site to help her and her lovely ladies get ready for the big day. The bride chose an Ines di Santo lace strapless gown with a belt she had made to co-ordinate with her dress and tie in her Jimmy Choo shoes and silver chandelier earrings. She chose to have her hair done in a loose fishtail braid that cascaded onto her shoulder and complimented it with neutral shades for her makeup. The groom wore a custom midnight blue tuxedo made by Commonwealth Proper. The couple had personalized sneakers made for their reception so that they could keep dancing all night long!
The Wedding Party
Lianna’s bridesmaids wore champagne floor length gowns with chiffon straps by Bill Levkoff, and opted for her Maids of Honor dresses to be slightly different from the bridesmaids, also by the same designer. Since the bride’s aesthetic called for a vintage feel we chose dusty colors and flowers that were dainty, sophisticated and synonymous with the period. We had so much fun executing her vision for the bridal party, and a few months before the wedding Lianna found beautiful vintage brooches she wanted to incorporate into her bridal bouquet. Her vision started coming together and we were so excited to use the brooches which we hadn’t done before. So we used roses in a variety of colors, dahlias, garden roses, spray roses, astrantia and tuberose. Greens like dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus for texture, fern for some whimsy and throughout we used her favorite, succulents, to add additional depth and variety to the bouquets. Jordan’s groomsmen each wore traditional black tuxedos with a bow tie and we opted to use a variety of different succulents for the boutonnieres with a dusty miller leaf and some seeded eucalyptus. The grooms boutonnière was a single amnesia rose with dusty miller and a fern frond.
The First Look
The couple chose to do the increasingly popular First Look so that they could have an intimate moment before the ceremony. In preparation they chose to share a note and wrote each other a thoughtful sentiment prior to seeing each other for the first time as they prepared to share their special day with all those close to them. I love that Alyssa Maloof captured the groom so perfectly in that special moment!
Lianna walked down the staircase in the Great Hall of the mansion that was we had adorned with what felt like a thousand bunches of greens. We attached foam bar raquettes to the hand railing with ivory satin ribbon which we then filled with a salal base and added springeri and sword fern to give it some movement and depth and cascaded green hanging amaranthus from the bottom. Jordan waited patiently and anxiously I am sure, for his beautiful bride by the Great Hall fireplace. We had added vases with ivory candles both in the hearth and along the top of the mantel and then cascaded italian ruscus down the side of the mantle onto the floor. We made arrangements of greens to coordinate with the bannister and incorporated lisianthus for movement and added spray roses, Queen Anne’s lace and larkspur.
